Samuel Alcock Porcelain dessert plate - Pattern 2/2253 Topographical scene c 1830 - rococo apple green ground gilt peach Chinese trellis design

A lovely, highly decorative, antique apple green ground porcelain (bone china) dessert plate dating from the late Georgian period of the early 19th century. It has been attributed to Samuel Alcock of Hill Pottery, Westport Road, Burslem, Staffordshire, England they operated from 1828 to 1859. It has been moulded in a lobed round shape.

The centre of the plate, which has been reserved in white in an asymmetric rococo scroll design with a gilt line edge and seaweed tendril gilding. It has been finely hand painted with a central topographical scene in muted tones. The scene is set in a country landscape possibly near Grisedale Bridge at Ullswater in the Lake District. There is a man sat on the banks of a lake fishing across from some cottages, in the background there is a sailing boat with mountains behind.

The apple green ground around the lip has been further decorated with beige coloured rectangles with stylised Chinese trellis pattern interspersed with half of a stylised flower and a green gilt lined background.  There are rococo cartouches with wild flower sprays to each with more rococo scroll gilding.

The underside of the plate is marked in puce enamel with pattern number 2 / 2253 in a cursive script.

It measures 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) in diameter and stands 1 inch (2.5 cm) high. It  weighs 491 grammes unpacked. It is in excellent antique condition with some wear to the gilding and a tiny mark to the enamel. No chips, cracks nor restoration.

This is a great piece to add to any collection of antique English bone china porcelain plates, Samuel Alcock dessert plates or Hill pottery items.
