Ancient Egyptian Faience Scaraboid Seal Made Into Chatelaine Fob in 19th C
A superb item for any collector of Ancient Egyptian scaraboid seals or chatelaine fobs, Here we have an ancient Egyptian faience scaraboid seal that has been converted some time ago, probably in the 19th century, into a hanging fob possibly for a chatelaine.
The seal has a ridged or lined top face with remnants of the glaze that would originally have covered it. The flat surface of the seal has a central keyhole type hole with hieroglyphs around it and is discoloured from use.
The seal itself is 1 1/8th inch by 7/8ths inch and it has been set into a low grade silver frame or mount. It is suspended from two chains which in turn are attached to a large ring. The overall drop is approx 3 1/2 inches.
This is a very interesting and unusual item to add to any collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts or for wearing as a unique item of antique jewellery.
