Antique Art Nouveau French Bull Horn Dragonfly Brooch by Georges Pierre c 1900

A most attractive and collectable French art nouveau hand carved dragonfly brooch made of bull horn and signed GIP on the back - the monogram of the famous Parisian jeweller, George Pierre. 

The brooch depicts a dragonfly with outstretched wings and a curled body and dates from c 1900. Georges Pierre and Elizabeth Bonte were two of the leading Parisian jewellers producing jewellery from horn and glass in the art nouveau style. They started out as rivals but later joined forces and worked together until 1936.

The brooch is 8.5 cm wide and approx 2 cm long. It has a long pin that fastens securely to a c-shaped clasp.  The GIP monogram can be found at the back of the brooch in the centre.
