Antique Blue and White Spongeware Spatterware Pottery Toilet Jug and Basin 1850
A lovely example of antique mid-19th century sponge-ware or spatter-ware pottery, possibly produced in Scotland and dating from around 1850.
This very attractive toilet jug and basin for a washstand has an elegant shape and the detail to the handle is particularly pleasing. The all over spattered design blue glaze gives a great effect and this antique set would look good in any interior.
The basin is approx 14 cm high by 33 cm at the rim. The jug is a maximum of 33 cm high, perfectly proportioned for the bowl in which it sits.
The two pieces are in good condition with the jug having a short, stabilised crack to the neck/ shoulder and a star crack to the base, The basin has some discolouration and three hairlines cracks to the underside of the rim, presumably from sitting in a washstand recess. It weighs 2.77kg
A great looking item for any collector of spongeware, spatterware or folk art pottery.
