A very attractive antique Chinese porcelain
planter or jardiniere dating from around 1880.
This lovely piece has been hand painted in the imari palette
of underglaze blue, iron red and green. The decoration includes different types
of birds in four cartouches with a background of flowers including Lotus.
The planter has a ribbed or lobed body and stands 4 3/4 inches high. It has a base diameter of 3 3/4 inches and a rim diameter of 6 1/4 inches. It weighs 1147g and is in very good order with just a little rubbing to the decoration and a fleabite nick or firing flaw at the inner rim.
There appears to be some form of impressed mark but, we
cannot decipher it as it may be badly struck.
This is a very decorative example of Chinese imari porcelain
for display and use.
