Antique Copeland Stoneware Sprigged Hunting Scene Tobacco Jar or Humidor Lidded with Acorn Finial Brown Jasperware Body White Sprigging 1847 - 1867

A very decorative antique Copeland cream coloured stoneware tobacco jar or humidor with a sprigged hunting scene, This very attractive item of Victorian stoneware was produced by the renowned factory of Copeland and has their impressed mark on the base. This mark was used between the years 1847 - 1867.

The cylindrical shaped jar stands approx 6.5 inches or 16 cm high and has a base diameter of 3 3/4 inches/ 9.6 cm. It has a brown glaze on the base and the lid. The sprigged design shows a hunting scene with hunters, horses and hounds in a country landscape. There is a band of oak leaves towards the rim. The domed lid has an acorn finial and leaves radiating out from the centre. There is a geometric pattern around the rim,

The jar is in excellent condition and a great example. The lid has a matt glaze and the jar has a glossy glaze but this has been more thickly applied in some parts, giving a darker look. It weighs 558g. Please see my other antique ceramics also listed for sale.
