Antique Cross Stitch Embroidered Sampler by M. Greenwoods Dated 1850.
Here we have a very attractive antique framed cross stitch sampler that is quite crudely, but charmingly worked, may have possibly been done by a child.
The picture shows a pair of sweethearts punting on a river with a house in the background - a very idyllic scene. The cotton or linen fabric has been embroidered with cotton and wool and at the top the embroiderer has added: M. Greenwoods Work. 1850.
The sampler has a modern frame that has complementary cream and gilt colouring. Overall it measures 15 3/4 inches by 14 inches.
There is a slight gap on the right hand size as the frame is slightly too wide for the fabric. The embroidery is in good condition with just very minor damage in a couple of places. It weighs 1175g.
This is a very decorative item to add to any collection and especially appropriate for anyone who enjoys punting or has the name, Greenwood.
