Antique Delft Longcase Clock HP Miniature Bombe Shape Verge Movement circa 1880
The case is in the style of a Napoleon III (some people may classify this as Regence) bombe shaped long case clock, which has been extensively hand painted. The front of the case has a central panel with a woman in eighteenth century dress walking in the countryside. The rest of the front is painted with floral scrolls, shells and geometric patterns. The base has a rectangular cartouche with a landscape with a house in it. The sides are each painted with sailing boats and covered with flowers scrolls and floral designs. There is not much of the case that is not painted other than the back! The case has a painted monogram mark inside the base that we think reads JPS. It was made in Holland, Nederland or the Netherlands, whichever you prefer.
This lovely longcase model stands 12 3/8 inches (31.5 cm) high. The base width is 4 1/4 inches (11cm) and 3 inches (7.6 cm) deep, it weighs 874g unpacked.
It is in good antique condition with a little rubbing or flaking to the glaze on the corners of the body, there are no chips, cracks nor restoration. The glass door to the rear of the clock is cracked but has been glued at some time and is a little tight to shut. Please see the photographs. The movement works, runs for 24 hours and is keeping reasonable time but, is not guaranteed. The key is a replacement.
This is a lovely decorative piece to add to any collection of miniature items, delftware clocks or watches.
