Antique Georgian Silver Platinum Lustre Loving Cup Two Handled Goblet circa 1825 13 cm high 0.294 kg
A most attractive and collectable antique earthenware loving cup or two handled goblet dating from c 1825, the Georgian era.
The footed cup has a very decorative silver or platinum lustre glaze with an interior glaze to imitate gilding. Lustreware such as this was produced to give the impression that the owner was in possession of real silver items. These ingenious ceramic lookalikes were produced in the first half of the 19th century and would have been carefully displayed in an attempt to enhance their owner's status with any visitors.
The cup stands approx 13 cm high and has a diameter at the rim of 8.5 cm. The base diameter is 6.5 cm. The cup weighs 294 grammes and is in very good antique condition with just very minor glaze chip to the underside of the base rim - see images. There is a little rubbing to the lustre finish commensurate with age and use.
This is a great item for any collector of lustreware or early 19th century English ceramics.
