Gilded Bronze Servants Call Lever or Bell Pull cast floral decoration Rococo Scrolls with pull chain - Antique Mid 19th century

An antique mid 19th century gilded bronze servants call lever or bell pull with cast floral decoration and rococo scrolls, complete with the original pull chain. This is part of a domestic servant call bell system, by operating the lever the master or mistress of the household could ring for a valet or a maid from any room in the house. The end of the chain would be connected to copper wire which ran across walls down to a bell board in the servants’ quarters. There is no wall backplate with this item, it was presumably left in the wall when this was removed. 

The iron shaft, which is firmly attached to the bronze front rose, has a 5/16 inch square which would fit into a matching square on the wall backplate. The brass lever and chain drum freely rotate on the shaft. The diameter of the boss on the lever is 1.83 inches ( 4.65 cm). The diameter of the rose is 2 3/8 inches (5.9 cm). The depth of the drum to the end of the square shaft is 2 inches (5 cm). Overall length 5 5/8 inches (14.2 cm). overall depth 3 1/2 inches (9 cm)

This is a great architectural antique item, perfect to help restore a period home and great as a piece of architectural decoration. We think that this item dates from the mid 19th century in the Victorian period circa 1850.

The item is in good antique condition, there is a build up of tarnish on the item. This has been left in this condition as some collectors prefer the patina to be intact. We are sure it would polish up beautifully if so desired.
