Antique Gothic Revival easel photo picture frame in high relief cast brass - helmeted leopards the green man & ornate scrolls - for landscape 6"x4.5"

A beautiful quality cast brass (may have been ormolu) easel type picture or photo frame cast in high relief with an ornate Gothic Revival design, reminiscent of the work of Pugin. It has two mythical helmeted tiger or leopard heads within ornate pierced scrolls at the top, and the Green Man's head at the bottom, all surrounded with ornate scrolls.

The frame has a decorative crest type top with ornate leaf scrolls and heraldic symbols. The feet have the same pierced decorative scrolls as used on the top and base.

The central frame has four raised square shaped corners with a rosette, the sides each have a geometric diamond border with rosettes and the top and bottom have more rosettes interspersed with circular scrolls. The outer sides are decorated with scroll finials.

This frame takes a 6 inch (15.2 cm) x 4 1/2 inch (11.4 cm) picture and comes complete with glass and the print of the East front of Eaton Hall Cheshire published by Fisher and sons of London in 1842. It has a tapered holding plate which is a replacement (signs of previous retention by sticky tape) that fits into locating slots on the back of the frame to hold the brass back in place. There is an ornately shaped decorative hinged leg at the back. 

This very unusual and highly decorative antique picture or photo frame is in excellent condition ready to use, the top left scroll has been slightly bent in the past, minor marks and wear commensurate with age and use. This frame dates to the mid to late 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria circa 1860.
