Chinese Hand Carved Pierced Bovine Bone Ladies Hand Fan Intricate Design Antique
A highly collectable and very decorative folding Chinese hand fan made of carved and pierced bovine bone and dating from the late 19th century.
The fan has a very intricate design and the 17 sticks or blades are very slim and finely made with a geometric design. The fan folds up neatly and easily and has replacement cream silk ribbon.
When fully spread out, it is 16 1/4 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches high. It weighs 93 g.
The fan has a few condition issues with a couple of sticks missing, including a guard piece. The design to one side is not symmetrical as a result of a stick beings missing as well as one guard stick also being missing. There is a split to the top of an end stick and this has been glued, damage to the top of the stick next to it and and couple of little holes in the piercing.
Despite the damage, this is a very attractive item for display or use and a great example of Chinese craftsmanship.
