Antique Dessert Plates & Comport Good Quality Hand Painted Flowers & Fruit circa 1880 - profusion of fruit flowers leaves & berries 22 cm dia 5 cm H
A most attractive, opulently and beautifully hand painted part dessert set comprising three items - two plates and a low comport or cake stand.
This unmarked antique set was probably produced by one of the Staffordshire factories of the day and dates from circa 1870. The three pieces have a profusion of fruit, flowers, leaves and berries - each one unique. They really are a feast for the eye with blooms including wild rose, lily of the valley and forget-me-nots; fruits including plums, grapes and apples and berries including strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, cherries and redcurrants. All are beautifully depicted with lots of detail.
Each item has a diameter of approximately 22 cm and the comport stands approximately 5 cm high. As well as the hand painted centres, there are decorative gilded bands and rims.
Together the set weighs 1387 grammes unpacked and condition is very good. The comport may possibly have had the lower joint of the base come apart at some time and re-fixed but this has been done very neatly. This is a most decorative and desirable set for display and use.
