Indian Rosewater Sprinkler Chased Enamel Brass Benares Gulabdani Antique c 1900

A decorative antique Indian brass hand crafted rosewater sprinkler (Gulabdani) dating dating from the late 19th century circa 1900.  The sprinkler is a very attractive item with an intricate chased and black lac enamelled design featuring scrolling foliage and decorative motifs.

There are red enamelled bands at several points, but this has worn off in places due to age and use. This type of Indian brassware is often referred to as Benares ware after the region in which much of this metalware was produced.

The sprinkler unscrews at the base of the stem for filling and the sprinkler stands approx 6 inches high. The base measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The sprinkler is in very good antique condition with good patination.  It weighs 103g unpacked.

This is a very attractive example of antique Indian metalware and a very decorative item to enhance any collection.
