An antique Japanese Arita porcelain small plate or dish with a scalloped and shaped rim. The whole dish has been hand painted in an Imari palette and gilded with a bird sat in a potted Acer tree which in turn is sat upon a small square table with dragon head decorations. There are alternating lobed floriate panels of iron red and cobalt blue around the rim. The underside of the rim has underglaze blue stylised bamboo stems and lined bands
This is a good quality item and a very decorative example of Arita ware dating from around 1900 in the Victorian period of the UK and the Meiji era in Japan (1868 -1912).
The porcelain dish is in excellent antique condition with no cracks, crazing nor repairs however, it does have a small 2mm wide chip to the rim at the 3 o'clock position. It measures - 6 1/8 inches ( 15.5 cm ) diameter and 1 3/8 inches ( 3.5 cm ) in height, it weighs 203 grammes unpacked.
