A beautifully detailed pair of antique Japanese cast bronze vases dating from around 1880 - 1900, in the Meiji period.
The baluster shaped vases are decorated with a relief Kakiemon type design featuring birds and flowers within shield shaped cartouches to both front and back of each vase. Each scene is slightly different giving variables as to how they are displayed. Both vases have bamboo shaped handles and a scrolled pattern at the necks.
They are 8 1/4 inches high, 5 1/2 inches wide and together weigh 2204g, so solidly made items. The vases are highly decorative and would look great displayed on a mantelpiece or side table. They have good patination and are in very good antique condition throughout. May not be suitable for holding water. Because of their weight, they can only be shipped to overseas locations by a courier service, and prices given for this are indicative
