Antique Japanese Floral Moriage Porcelain Snuff or Pill Box 19th - 6.7 cm long, 5 cm wide, 3.5 cm high possibly French by Edme Samson
A very attractive hand painted antique Japanese style porcelain snuff, pill or small trinket box, decorated with a floral moriage design. This lovely box dates from the late 19th century, during the Meiji period circa 1890.
The box is rectangular in shape with canted corners and has a metal hinged frame to connect the lid and base, it has a shell shaped clasp. It has been hand painted all round the sides and top of the lid with a colourful floral and gilded pattern with moriage decoration.
The base is marked with a red square seal mark that we so far have been unable to identify. It may read Rusan ル三. Alternatively it may possibly have been made by the French firm of Edme Samson.
The box is approximately 2 5/8 inches ( 6.7 cm) long, 2 inches ( 5 cm) wide and 1 3/8 inches (3.5 cm) high. It is in excellent antique condition. It weighs 60 grammes unpacked.

This is a highly collectable and decorative item and great for display on its own or as part of a collection of pill boxes, trinket boxes, snuff boxes, antique Japanese porcelain, Edme Samson or moriage decorated ware.
