Antique Japanese Porcelain Tashiro Hand Painted Plate late Meiji Period ca 1910
An antique Japanese hand painted porcelain plate with beautifully hand painted and gilded intricate detail. This is a great example of a Japanese brocade pattern plate dating from around 1910, during the late Meiji period to early Taisho. The base is marked, 田代 , Tashiro sei, made by Tashiro in Yokohama, Japan
The decoration has been very skilfully done and features a large enamelled and gilded off centre chrysanthemum flower with a brocade pattern, stylised stems with smaller pink flowers and four bright blue butterflies. The border rim has a brown and gilt basket weave pattern. The palette of enamel colours features blue and iron red, pink, orange, yellow, brown and white with gilded highlights. This is a very good quality item and a very decorative example of this ware.
The plate 7 1/4 inches (18.4 cm) diameter and 7/8 inches (2.3 cm) high, it weighs 201 grammes unpacked
It is in very good antique condition with just a small chip to the internal side of the footrim and very minor rubbing to the gilding.
