Japanese Silver Plated Decorative Plate Parrot Blossom 7 inch Antique c 1900 Meiji
A very decorative antique Meiji period Japanese silver plated plate with low relief decoration including a parrot on a branch with blossom and a bee flying away from the bird's open beak. The border could be described as being in an Aesthetic Movement style.
The plate is made of a white metal, some kind of alloy, plated with silver. It is 7 inches in diameter and has a scalloped border with each scallop having a different geometric pattern, alternating with floral motifs including chrysanthemums, prunus blossom, peony and iris flowers.
It has a maker's mark on the base that reads 山小, yamoko which translates as small mountain. It weighs 262g unpacked. The plate is in good condition with just a little wear to the plate and minor surface scratches commensurate with age.
