Antique Marcolini Period Meissen Porcelain Lidded Chocolate Cup c 1785

A beautiful quality antique, decorative, hard paste Meissen porcelain lidded chocolate cup decorated with hand painted birds and a puce scale ground. It is painted in poly-chrome enamels with an applied flower as the finial to the lid. There are gilded rococo scrolls on the lid and cup which has an twisted entwined handle.

There is a cobalt blue maker's mark of crossed swords with an asterisk or star beneath. This mark relates to the Marcolini period at Meissen 1774 to 1814. The decoration we believe was fashionable around 1785.

The cup is in excellent antique condition, with minor rubbing to the gilding on the rim. The lid is also in good antique condition, the flower finial has been chipped. No saucer.  Please see the images.
