George III Style Boat Shaped Sauce Tureen Bled Silver Plate Antique c 1860
A very classical antique, decorative, George III style old silver plate (silver on copper) boat shaped twin handled sauce tureen and cover having high swept loop handles, a gadrooned rim and standing on an oval foot, the domed and dished lid has an Etruscan urn shaped finial. There is a slot in the lid in which to fit a ladle. Both the tureen and lid have a small discrete number 4 stamped on the inner rims.
The sauce tureen is in fair antique condition, the plate on the outside has completely bled, there is a repair to the joint between the foot and bowl and the handles. The inside of the tureen and lid and the base still retains most of the silver plate. There are small dents to the ends of the lid. Please see the images. A nice example for a collector of metalware old silver plate in a classical George III style. This tureen dates to the mid 19th century circa 1860 however, the style is that of the Georgian era of circa 1785. It may be possible to have this tureen re-plated if so desired.
