Pair of Elkington & Co ebony & silver plate candlesticks 7 inches high - Corinthian columns with ram's head corners & classical decoration dated 1906

A very rare and stunning looking high quality pair of antique Elkington and Co silver plated candlesticks with turned and carved ebony columns. This is a great combination which is seldom seen and very hard to come by. The Corinthian column candlesticks have stepped square bases which have ram's head corners, ribbons, swags and ornate classical decoration. The lower sides of the bases are stamped Elkington & Co on one side and on the other the Elkington and Co trademarks in the form of faux hallmarks along with the date code letter U for 1906.

These ornate column candlesticks each comprise three high quality castings, which can be disassembled for cleaning to prevent discolouration of the black wooden column.

The candlesticks each have a lift out sconce or nozzle with a locating lug to match up with a hole drilled in the top of the capital. The capitals have a long rod soldered on their bottoms, the lower end of the rod is screw threaded. The screwed rod runs through a hole drilled in the middle of the ebony column. The screw thread locates on a nut at the bottom of the decorative weighted base. The ebony wooden columns each have an offset locating hole to match with a lug soldered to the bases.

These beautiful candlesticks are in very good antique condition with some minor wear to the plate at the high points some minor marks to them commensurate with age and use. Please see the images. Each candlestick measures 3 3/8" (8.5 cm) square x 7" (17.8 cm) tall. They weigh 1 kg unpacked.

They would make a great addition to any dinner table, mantelpiece or side table. A tremendous pair of antique Elkington and Co silver plate and ebony candlesticks in the neo-classical style dating from the middle of the Edwardian period.
