Antique Pewter Tankard High Footed Half Pint Mug Metrication Stamp VR LI for Liverpool or Lincoln circa 1850 - sizes 11.5cm high 8.5cm diameter
A lovely example of antique Victorian mid 19th century pewter metalware. This stylish cast pewter high footed mug or tankard has a lovely deep patina and will hold half a pint of ale or beer.
It has a cast loop handle with a thickened top thumb rest. There is a trading standards inspectors mark or metrology mark near the handle. It is VR under a crown with LI, which could either be for Liverpool or possibly Lincoln.
It stands approximately 4 1/4 inches high, has a rim diameter of 3 3/8 inches, a foot diameter of 2 5/8 inches. The tankard is in very good antique condition with a good patination, It has the usual knocks, dents, marks and small scratches commensurate with its age and use as outlined in the item condition box above.
The tankard weighs in at 303 grammes unpacked. I have not polished the tankard as most collectors prefer unpolished items, however it would shine up beautifully with just a light clean. This is ideal for a collector of pewter or breweriana or kitchenalia
