A Royal Worcester Vitreous China dessert plate that has been beautifully hand painted with Pheasants by the ceramic artist - George Johnson (1859 -1931), a specialist bird painter. The artist has signed his surname - Johnson on the bottom right of the central image. The plate has a round slightly lobed edge with a border pattern consisting of five pairs of low relief moulded acanthus leaves with deep cobalt blue decoration and gilded highlighting.
The plate has an impressed mark on the back marked on the back with various potters marks and standard printed mark of the crowned crescent with eleven dots: the the date code for 1903. King Edward VII was on the throne in the early 20th century when this antique plate was made.
The back is marked with the hand painted pattern number 5369 and a painters mark. There are also impressed marks to the base: crowned, crescent 51 and W mark, see mark number 4350 in Godden's Encyclopaedia of pottery and porcelain marks.
The plate is in excellent antique condition - has no chips cracks nor restoration. Please see the images.
