Antique Saphiret Leaf Shaped Brooch Czech Bohemia c 1890 -1910 Great Colour

Beautiful antique circa 1890 - 1910 gilt metal and saphiret glass leaf shaped brooch or pin. Saphiret glass jewellery was produced in the then Bohemia from the 19th century. It is a very distinctive glass with colour tones that were created by fusing gold with sapphire coloured blue glass. This created a beautiful blend of colours with flashes of blue, brown and pink. The rarity of the stone is due to the high production costs. Eventually the cost of gold became too high for production to continue and it was stopped. Consequently, the pieces that exist are highly sought after by collectors.

The brooch is 4.5 cm / 1 3/4 inches long and the 11 stones are set in a leaf shaped mount. The faceted stones give off beautiful colours and it is a very attractive item and a great example of this highly collected jewellery.

The brooch fastens securely with a pin and c catch and it is in very good antique condition throughout. A very desirable item that looks stunning when worn.
