Antique Silver Aesthetic Movement Large Locket Engraved Crane or Heron c 1870
Antique Victorian silver aesthetic movement large size locket dating from circa 1870.
The locket is made of silver - unmarked but tests as such - and has a beautiful engraved Japonesque style scene of a wading bird, a crane or heron, among bulrushes on a river bank. This is a very typical aesthetic movement motif and this locket is a lovely example of its period.
The locket is 2 1/4 inches long including the bale and 1 3/8ths inch wide. It opens to reveal two picture compartments with no fittings. A previous owner has scratched their details - name and address on the interior. The locket is in good condition with some minor dents and scratches on the back, commensurate with age and wear. It weighs 14.3 grammes.
This is a great looking locket to add to a chain, ribbon or book chain.
