Antique Silver Salt Cauldron Shape Tri Footed Deakin and Francis HM 1912-13 29g
Antique Silver Cauldron Shaped Tri-Footed Open Salt.
Here we have an attractive and usable open salt made of silver and hallmarked on the side. The hallmark is quite rubbed but the year letter and assay office mark for Birmingham show that it was made in 1912-13, just outside of the Edwardian period.
The salt has the elegant style of this period and has a cauldron shape with a scalloped rim and three little pad feet. The makers monogram shows it was produced by Deakin and Francis founded in 1786 and still in operation today.
The salt weighs 29.8g and is in good order, slightly off level and with a little stubborn tarnishing in the bowl - may polish off with a bit of effort! A nice little piece of silver for display and use.
