Antique Spongeware Bowl Hand Painted Tulip Pattern Norman W Franks, London 1910

Antique Spongeware Bowl Hand Painted Tulip Pattern Norman W Franks, London 1910

Here we have a very attractive and collectable piece of hand decorated spongeware pottery dating from around 1910 - 1920 and retailed by Norman W Franks of Chesptow Place, Bayswater, London. This 10 inch diameter bowl has Franks' printed mark on the base but was possibly produced in Scotland. It is a very decorative item with a colourful, naive design featuring floral motifs, possibly tulips. The main colours are blue, pink , purple and green. The bowl is in good condition with just a short hairline from the rim and a little paint flaking and crazing. It weighs 600g and would make a great addition to any collection of spongeware or spatterware/ folk art type pottery.
