A great looking antique Victorian Scottish banded agate specimen brooch. Here we a have lovely example of Scottish agate jewellery, made popular by Queen Victoria, and dating from c 1880. The beautifully marked domed stone has the distinctive stripes of banded agate and a colour palette of grey, white, black and brown. The stone is set in a silver mount - unmarked but tests as such and this has a decorative rope twist rim.
The brooch is 1 7/8ths inch wide by approx 1 5/8ths inch, weighs 32 grammes unpacked. The long pin fastens securely to a c-shaped clasp. This is a lovely item of Victorian period jewellery and a very wearable piece.
