Antique Victorian Silver Plated Helmet Shaped Sugar Basin Scuttle shape c 1900
An antique, late Victorian silver plated helmet shaped sugar basin which can also be described as a coal scuttle shape, dating from circa 1900. This decorative and useful item has a truncated cylindrical body set at about 15 degrees from the horizontal on a short round pedestal foot. It has an applied lifting handle at the top and another at the closed back in which to store the scoop shaped spoon. The body is decorated with engraved flowers and leaves. There are no makers marks other than jeweller's marks.
The sugar basin stands approximately 4 1/4 inches (11 cm) high and is 5 3/4 inches (14.5 cm) long. It weighs 199 grammes unpacked.
The sugar basin is in good condition with a little very minor wear to the plate.
This is a very attractive antique helmet shaped sugar scuttle or basin and is a very decorative one for either display or use.
