Antique Victorian Silver Scottish Agate Cairngorm Celtic Knot Brooch Pin circa 1880

A most attractive and unusual design antique Victorian Scottish silver and agate brooch. The brooch is made of silver - unmarked but tests as such and dates from circa 1880.

It is oval in shape and with a knot or loop design at the centre. The brooch is approximately 4.5 cm long and there is a large oval faceted cairngorm stone at the centre. Either side of this are two loop shapes each set with a piece of Scottish agate - grey Montrose and a red agate. The outer part of the frame comprises two semi-circular pieces, each set with an agate - another piece of red (slightly chipped at one side) and a bloodstone. The silver has been beautifully chased or engraved over the full extent of the front. The long pin fastens securely to a c-shaped clasp and the brooch is ready to wear.
