Antique Victorian Staffordshire Figure of Shakespeare Shaped Base c 1860
An English Staffordshire flatback figure of the famous English playwright, William Shakespeare, circa 1860. This antique and highly collectable figure has a shaped base and shows Shakespeare leaning on a plinth with books and holding a script.
The figure has had old restoration to the hand which is fairly obvious and, less obviously to his breeches. This shows when viewed with a UV light. Despite the damage, the figure still displays well and it is a relatively rare figure for any staffordshire figurine collector.
It is slightly over 9 inches high and approximately 5 inches wide. It weighs 746g. As well as the restoration there is a firing tear to the top of the head, dating from manufacture - please see the images.
