Watercolour Painting Cottage at Wootton Berkshire FH Stewart Antique 19th C
A very attractive and decorative gilt framed watercolour painting of a rustic rural landscape scene titled on the mount "Cottage at Wootton, Berkshire" by F.H. Stewart 19th century.
This antique watercolour painting on paper dates from the late 19th century circa 1890, it has been remounted in the distant past. This desirable and decorative watercolour painting on paper shows a young girl with a basket walking past a red roof tiled cottage and in the background is a church with a tower amongst the trees. There is another figure in the distance also walking along the road towards the viewer.
It is a well executed watercolour. The painting is mounted on a lined and embossed beveled card mount in glazed frame which has had repairs to diagonally opposing corners. There is a pencil inscription to the back of the paper "Wootton, Berkshire". The frame is antique and may be the original, it has a label to the back "Bruntons photographers, gilder and frames of 7 St James' St Burnley". The watercolour painting is in good, original condition with some foxing to the paper and some marks and losses to the frame. - please see the images. It is a pretty and decorative painting ready to be hung.
The frame measures 20 3/8 inches ( 51.8 cm) by 14 3/4 inches ( 37.5 cm) and the visible painting is 9 1/8 inches (23.2 cm) by 5 7/8 inches ( 15 cm). The painting in its frame weighs 1.4 kg unpacked.
