Antique Pair Cut Glass Eau de Cologne Scent Bottles Gilded Decor French c 1860
A very decorative and attractive pair of mid- 19th century cut and hand gilded glass eau de cologne / scent or perfume bottles.
The bottles were probably produced in France, date from circa 1860 and are very good quality. They are mallet shaped with long panel cuts and thumb cuts. They have faceted stoppers that are slightly different in width from each to exactly fit their bottle, forming an air tight seal. The bottles were produced by being mould blown, hand cut and hand gilded with polished pontils to the bases.
Each bottle is numbered on the base and there are faint remnants of a matching number of the bottom of one stopper. The bottles have been beautifully and opulently hand gilded with swags and foliate sprays, bands and leaf sprays to each facet of the shoulders.
They stand 20 cms or 8 inches high and have a maximum width of 7.5 cm. They are heavy for their size at 923g. They are in very good condition and have clearly been very well looked after over the years. Beautiful bottles for display or use.
