Threaded ruby glass or cranberry glass swirl ribbed or threaded Art Nouveau claret jug with silver plated mounts antique circa 1900 1 litre capacity
A very attractive antique art nouveau threaded ruby glass or cranberry glass claret jug with silver plated mount, lid and handle. This very stylish quality machine blown and threaded claret jug has a tall tapering conical shape. Some collectors may describe the glass body decoration as wrythen. The body is decorated with fine swirled or spiral ribs.
The embossed decorated silver plated mount forms a spout, lid and handle for the claret jug. The high conical hinged lid has an ornate integral ball spire finial.
This claret jug was possibly made by Stevens and Williams in Stourbridge in the West Midlands, England and dates from circa 1900.
The jug stands 11 1/2 inches (29.3 cm) high overall and is approximately 5 1/4 inches (13.3 cm) diameter at the widest point 6 3/8 inches ( 16.3 cm) length It weighs 697 grammes unpacked. It has a maximum capacity of 100 cl (33 fl oz).
It is in very good, clean condition and ready to use. There is wear and loss to the silver plating on the outside, it may be possible to have this re-plated if so desired.
This is a lovely antique Victorian art nouveau claret jug or handled decanter for display and use and would make a very elegant addition to any dinner table or side table.
