Arts and Crafts 4 Piece Brass Desk Set Jugendstil Style Antique c 1900

An Arts and Crafts four piece brass desk set consisting of a pen tray, ink well, blotter and letter opener decorated with an embossed stylised scrolling floral pattern in the Jugendstil style. This attractive and decorative antique desk set is made from pressed and embossed brass sheet, the ink well has a ceramic liner and the blotter has a wooden roller. The ink well has two small applied lugs on the back for use as a pen rest.

The underside of the letter opener is stamped with Ges. Gesch which as an abbreviation of Gesetzlich Geschützt, a German phrase that translates as protected by law or copyright. This set was made in Germany in the late Victorian period around 1900.  It is made in the Jugendstil style which was the German version of Art Nouveau, a style in the Decorative Arts that was linked to the Austrian Secessionist Movement.

The tray is 200 mm long and has a width of 60 mm, the letter opener is 218 mm long, The ink well is 125 mm long 125 mm deep and 40 mm high. The set weighs a total of 334 g unpacked.

The set is in very good antique condition, there are a few very small marks and knocks to some of the items, all commensurate with its age and use.  The ceramic liner to the inkwell has s short tight crack. Please see the images.

This would make a great addition to any collection of antique desktop items, Arts and Crafts, Jugendstil or Secessionist items. for collectors of ink wells, blotters, pen trays, letter knives or just as decorative conversation pieces.
