Late Victorian Bohemian flashed blue glass pedestal bowl - cut to clear with scalloped turn over rim circa 1900 14.6cm high 19 cm diameter 0.8 kg

A beautiful quality antique everted or turned over rim, cut to clear, Bohemian blue flashed glass pedestal small fruit bowl or comport. The bowl is made of clear glass with a thin layer or flash of blue glass. This effect was produced by having a large gather of molten clear glass which was then dipped into a crucible of molten blue glass and the whole then blown or moulded to shape. The deeply dished bowl of the body is round in section, and not dissimilar in shape to an inverted Breton hat. The turned over rim has been cut on the top with thumb or lens cuts and star cuts divided by lines. The edge of the rim has been expertly scallop and inverted T cut. The hollow flattened ball knopped and faceted stem is eight vertical facets and a hollow dentil moulded or crimped pedestal base.

This turnover rim bowl dates to the late nineteenth century to early twentieth, around 1900, during the reign of Queen Victoria in the late Victorian period. This unusual antique fruit bowl, sweet or candy bowl made in two parts, bowl and stem then fused together

A very attractive and great quality dish, in excellent antique condition with a few inevitable very tiny nicks minor chips to the cutting on the inside underside of the rim as shown in the images however, these can only be seen when turned upside down. There is some scratching or marking in the base of the bowl from use.  No cracks nor restoration. The body has the usual bubbles and other minor inclusions and tool marks within the metal and wear to the base commensurate with age and use.

Some collectors may refer to this item as a centre bowl or pedestal bowl, a tazza, pedestal dish or perhaps a center bowl or compote to our American customers.

This antique cut to clear blue flashed glass comport is a very decorative and extremely useful piece of Victorian glassware for the table or sideboard and would be suitable statement piece for any interior.
