Antique Brass Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau Repousse Fire Fender Kerb c 1900 stylised pomegranates and hearts on a hammered background 142cm Wide 40cm D
A great-looking antique arts and crafts / art nouveau fire hearth surround, fender or kerb made of brass with repousse decoration.
The fender dates from circa 1900 and features a very typical design of the period with organic, sinuous stylised pomegranates and hearts on a hammered background. These are beautifully executed with a large central motif with two smaller versions either side and with two further on the sides.
The fender is 142 cm wide (external) or 56 inches; Internal width is 122 cm ( 48 inches). The external depth is 40 cm (15 1/2 inches) and the inside depth is 30 cm (12 inches). It weighs 6.85 kg unpacked. It is in good antique condition with a little corrosion to the steel plate fixed to the base and some areas of minor splitting to the brass - please see the images.
It is a well made piece with the brass covering all visible parts of the fender. Would make a perfect addition to any fireplace hearth particularly with an arts and crafts or art nouveau look.
