Antique cast brass or bronze taper stick holder & snuffer or small chamber stick with a floriate design & butterfly handle mid 19th century 13 mm dia

An unusually shaped cast brass or bronze taper stick or small chamber stick with snuffer. English mid 19th century, cast in a high relief ornate floriate design with a pretty loop handle decorated with a butterfly. The tapered conical snuffer sits on a small locating loop to the front. The snuffer has a low relief design of overlapping leaves not unlike the tip of asparagus stems.

The taper stick is very typical of the Victorian period and dates from around 1850. It is in excellent antique condition with just a little denting to the snuffer, commensurate with age and use. The internal diameter of the nozzle for the taper is 9/16 inch. This taper stick would probably have been used to melt wax for sealing letters and could also be used to light the way to the various chambers (rooms).
