A beautiful mid-19th century desk set; a domed lidded stationery or letter box and matching blotter pad veneered in burr walnut wood and surmounted with ornate Gothic style pierced gilt brass fittings and bovine bone mounts with brass domed pins. This is a highly desirable and beautiful high quality set. The box is lined internally in the lid with a pink moire taffeta or satin material and also on the edges of the fitted letter racks of paper lined wood. Three of the small cross sectional dividers are missing. The blotter is lined internally with pink marbled paper.
They are both in excellent antique condition. The central diamond shape bovine bone mounts each have minor cracks and the one on the box has a minor loss. The brass is all very good, a little tarnish but no damage or scrapes. The blotter has a small knock on one corner. One of the decorative brass pin heads is missing on the left hand strap of the box lid. There is some very minor marks and wear from use. There is no key for the box lock however, they are inexpensive to have made should you wish.
This is a highly decorative and useful item of Victorian wooden ware for the ideal for the desk, sideboard or library.
