Chamberlains Worcester porcelain plate - antique Georgian circa 1820 - hand painted botanical floral pattern & gilding - 8 1/2 inch diam 453 grammes
A very pretty Chamberlain's Worcester porcelain dessert plate decorated with an exquisitely hand painted polychrome enamel coloured botanical floral pattern in a band with additional gilding. The flowers include: Roses, Convolvulus, Fritillary, Clematis, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Geum, Dog Roses and other garden flowers. The plate is round in shape and similar is style to Grecian or Bute shape saucers of the early 19th century.
The back has a printed mark - Chamberlain's Worcester & 155 New Bond Street London Royal Porcelain Manufacturers. This mark was used between 1811-1840. See Godden's Encyclopedia of pottery and Porcelain marks page 138 mark 842. Based upon the shape and design we would date this plate to around 1820 the Regency or Georgian period of George IV.
It measures 8 1/2 inches (21.6 cm) in diameter, stands 1 3/16 inches (3 cm) high and weighs 453 grammes unpacked. It is in excellent antique condition with very minor marking to the gilding and insignificant marks from use and some minor loss to enamels. There two tiny frits in the body, dating from manufacture. No chips, cracks nor restoration.
This is a great piece to add to any collection of antique English porcelain plates or Chamberlain's Worcester pieces.
