Chinese Brass Temple Bell Gong with Carved Wooden Stand Buddhist Antique c 1910
A very decorative antique Chinese brass and rosewood temple bell or gong and stand with mallet. This is a great-looking Chinese temple bell or gong to be used during meditation. It dates from around 1900 - 1920 and stands 17.5 inches high.
The gong is six sided with a shaped hanging loop, the brass body is chased with a design featuring a dragon and a Chinese phoenix or Feng Huang. The intricate hardwood frame or stand has fretwork carving and is approx 9 3/4 inches wide. The wooden mallet for the gong sits in a little notch above the foot stand.
The bell makes a lovely sound and as well as being a very decorative object for display it is useful for anyone practising meditation. Alternatively, it could be used as a dinner gong. The bell and stand are in very good antique condition, although the stand may have lost a fretted panel on one side the base. The total unpacked weight is approx 1.4 kg.
