Chinese export porcelain antique Canton hand painted rose medallion pattern coffee cup & saucer birds and butterflies - Antique circa 1860

Chinese export porcelain antique Canton hand painted rose medallion pattern coffee cup and saucer. This beautifully decorated coffee or small tea cup and saucer dates from the 19th century around 1860. Xianfeng 咸豐帝  was the Emperor on the throne at this time in the Qing 清代 dynasty.

The round deep dished saucer has a plain rim as does the coffee cup. The handle is a moulded loop with external thumb rest at the top and a finger rest at the bottom.

The majority of the visible surfaces of both items is decorated in the usual scrolling green foliage pattern and is painted with green, pink, orange, yellow, blue, black enamels with copious gilding, the subjects include lotus flowers, peonies, and butterflies.

The outer face of the bowl of the cup has three cartouches or panels, the saucer has four cartouches and the central medallion.  Each panel is painted in the same bright enamel colours with either Chinese figures in different domestic scenes, flowers and shrubs, or birds and butterflies. The cup and saucer each have a round medallion cartouche containing a peony flower, the cup also has a bird . Some collectors refer to this highly collectable design as "Mandarin pattern".

This cup and saucer are in fair antique condition with a little minor rubbing to the gilding, there is a crack in the cup and a tiny nick on the rim. The saucer has been broken on the rim and two large pieces have been glued back in place. No other chips, cracks nor restoration. Please see the images. The price takes the condition into account.

This is a beautiful item to add to any collection of Chinese "Rose Medallion" ware, Mandarin pattern or useful and highly decorative 19th century antique Chinese porcelain.
