A highly collectable and very decorative folding Chinese hand fan made of carved and pierced bovine bone and dating from the late 19th century.
The fan has a very intricate design and the 15 sticks or blades are very slim and finely made with a geometric design. The fan folds up neatly and easily and has replacement black silk ribbon.
When fully spread out, it is 12 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches high. It weighs 46 grammes unpacked.
The fan has a couple of condition issues with a stick missing, as well as the guard pieces. The design to one side is not symmetrical as a result of the stick being missing. There is some discolouration and some minor damage to some piercing. Despite the damage, this is a very attractive item for display or use and a great example of Chinese craftsmanship.
