Chinese White Metal Silver Bowl 5" Engraved flower vase & Longevity character shou 壽 Lingzhi Fungus 19th century 173 grammes

An antique hand made Chinese white metal bowl which tests as silver but is unmarked. The bowl has chased and engraved decoration consisting of a small Chinese table with a vase or plant pot with a small shrub or plant which has large flowers, buds and birds perched amongst the stems. This design is repeated three times around the bowl. In between this engraving is a stylised 壽 shou character for longevity which is engraved above a Lingzhi fungus (灵芝) a symbol for good luck and immortality. The bowl has been hand made and has hammer marks from dishing or raising the shape in manufacture and has been very neatly hand chased and engraved.

The bowl is in a traditional round footed shape, the ring shaped foot has been hard soldered in place, there is some solder spatter on the inside of the foot from manufacture. The base is unmarked and it dates to the late 19th to early 20th century.

The metal tests as low grade silver less than 925. It weighs 173 grammes unpacked.

The bowl which has been relatively recently highly polished but, is in very good antique condition, this is a most attractive item to add to any collection of antique Chinese silver or antique 19th century metal ware.
