Coalport Christening Verse Bone China Mug Hand Painted Flowers Antique c 1830

An English bone china mug hand gilded with a religious verse and painted with Coalport type floral bouquets circa 1830. This lovely mug that was probably given as a Christening gift as it has a beautifully and very neatly gilded verse on it: " Now that my journey just begun, my course so little trod, I'll stay before I further run And give myself to God". This verse was written by Jane Taylor ( 1783 - 1824) and appeared in Hymns for Infant Minds by Jane and her sister Ann, and published in 1810.

The beautifully depicted floral bouquets feature roses, daisies and foliage in pastel shades, either side of the gilded verse. The mug is in good antique condition with just a few very faint hairlines from the rim, rubbing to the gilded rim and the body discolouration that you often see with early bone china. There are no maker's marks as is often the case with porcelain dating from this period but probably produced by one of the Staffordshire factories in a style often attributed to Coalport. It has a C shape scroll handle with upper thumb rest.

It is a great item to add to any collection of early 19th century English porcelain, Christening Mugs, Verse China, or religious ceramics.
