Elkington Silver Plate set 5 Forks Kings Pattern Antique date code 1884

A lovely antique set of five large dinner forks by the renowned maker, Elkington & Co. These are great looking antique forks with shell and anthemion motifs made by Elkington and with the date code for 1884.

The 5 forks are made in one piece in the King's pattern. The forks are 8 3/8 inches long. Each item is fully marked with Elkington trade mark, the date code Y, in a square with canted corners, for the year 1884. They are a very tactile shape and nicely weighted so sit very nicely in the hand. Together they weigh 442 grammes.

The company of Elkington and Co was founded in 1836 by George Richards Elkington and his brother, Henry and they were based in Newhall Street, Birmingham with showrooms at 22, Regent Street, London. They operated under the name G.R Elkington until 1842 when a third partner, Josiah Mason joined the firm. It then operated as Elkington, Mason & Co until 1861 when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firm subsequently operated independently as Elkington & Co from 1861-1963. They were the most important silver plate maker in the U.K.

This is a great-looking set of antique silver plated forks, in excellent condition with just very minor marking from what appears to be very limited use. Ideal for display and use.
