A beautiful antique Kings pattern twelve place setting dessert cutlery set by the renowned maker, Elkington & Co. This is a great looking and very useable antique set of knives and forks by Elkington with the date code for the year 1882.

The 12 knives and 12 forks have very attractive kings pattern handles. The round nosed bladed knives are 8 1/2 inches long and the four pronged forks, 7 1/4 inches. Each item is fully marked on the blade and fork shaft with Elkington trade marks, and the date code of W (1882). The handles of each item are all marked E& Co. They are a very tactile decorative shape and nicely weighted so sit very nicely in the hand. Together they weigh 1085 grammes.

The company of Elkington and Co was founded in 1836 by George Richards Elkington and his brother, Henry and they were based in Newhall Street, Birmingham with showrooms at 22, Regent Street, London. They operated under the name G.R Elkington until 1842 when a third partner, Josiah Mason joined the firm. It then operated as Elkington, Mason & Co until 1861 when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firm subsequently operated independently as Elkington & Co from 1861-1963. They were the most important silver plate maker in the U.K.

This is a great-looking set of twenty four pieces of antique silver plated cutlery, the plate is in very good condition with some minor marking and wear to the tips of some blades commensurate with age and use. This quality antique cutlery is ideal for both display and also very suitable for use.
