English pottery 18th century shell edged pearlware china glazed dinner plate decorated with a hand painted blue moulded lip & rim - antique circa 1785
A beautiful example of antique, late eighteenth century, English pottery - a pearlware, shell edged, blue lipped, glazed dinner plate. The pearlware bodied, press moulded plate has been made with the lip and rim being moulded in low relief reminiscent of sea shells. The front outer lip has been decorated with cobalt blue oxide under the glaze. This lovely very usable dinner plate dates from the Georgian period during the reign of George III circa 1785.
The condition is very good unrestored condition, there is some very minor glaze flaking to the edge of the rim, there are some very minor scratches and wear from use. Please see the images.
This is a beautiful and interesting, decorative example of antique English pottery from late 18th century of the Georgian period of what the Staffordshire makers termed - china glazed and edged ware .
