A beautifully decorated, exquisitely modelled, finely hand painted European continental porcelain figurine of a young man standing on an oval shaped faux marble base. He is stood next to a tree trunk, holding a dove or possibly carrier pigeon in his left hand, it has a thin blue ribbon over its back. In his right hand he has a hand written note, just delivered by the bird. The model is unmarked but is antique old Paris porcelain in the style of Jean Gilles or Vion et Baury who in turn copied Sevres and Meissen. However, we think that it is possibly late 19th century hard paste Chantilly porcelain of Bougon and Chalot circa 1880.

The man is dressed in an ornate long sky blue coat and ornate waistcoat both copiously decorated with a floral pattern. He has a lace neck cravat and his long hair is tied in a pony tail at the back with a large burgundy coloured ribbon. He is wearing black shoes with silver buckles and pink dot patterned stockings. His clothing has gold or gilt accenting the the edges. The artist paid great attention to all the details on this beautiful piece. 

This exceptional antique French porcelain statue is a impressive reminder of the quality of workmanship around Paris at this time. He will make a beautiful and impressive addition to your home or collection.

The figurine stands on an integral round decorative relief moulded base naturalistically modelled as uneven grassy ground, with decorative painted panels all round with the gadrooning or relief moulded pattern being highlighted in contrasting colours.

It is in excellent antique condition, no chips, cracks nor restoration. There is a small firing tear to the  right side of his coat, a stress crack inside the base and some wear to the gilding. Please see the images. 

We have a similar style female figure but, with a goat, they would make a nice matched pair.

The figurine has an overall height of 14 1/2 inches (37 cm) and a base width of 5 7/8 inches (14.9 cm) and base length of 6 3/4 inches (17.1 cm). It weighs 2580 grammes unpacked. Free UK delivery international shipping at cost.
